- Nord Security teams up with ASUS to create WiFi routers with in-built VPN
- ASUS presents the first two such models: a lighter, portable one, and a more powerful one for pro gamers
- Other router manufacturers are also welcome to make use of Nord Security’s VPN solutions
This July, Lithuanian cybersecurity unicorn Nord Security announced entering into a partnership with ASUS, a global leader of tech hardware. The new partnership presupposes integrating Nord Security’s world famous VPN solutions directly into ASUS’ WiFi networking devices. While installing VPN on a router isn’t unheard of, the new partnership makes ASUS a pioneer in marketing its routers as ones with pre-installed VPN.
Shared Commitment to a Safer Internet
Nord Security is known for its commitment to a secure and private internet. According to the company’s head of product strategy Vykintas Maknickas, this is yet another contribution to building a better internet by enabling customers to set up VPN services on their routers to protect a full network of their devices at once.
‘ASUS’s strong brand reputation underscores their reliability and quality in network solutions, and ASUS routers are recognized for their strong performance and comprehensive features, making them especially well-suited for in-built VPN use. Our partnership with ASUS allows us to enhance the security of everyone – from traveling customers who use portable networking devices to video games enthusiasts,’ Mr Maknickas tells ITKeyMedia.
He underlines that the partnership stems from the two companies’ shared values and a joint aim to create a better, safer and more private internet to their customers worldwide.
The Benefits of an In-Built VPN
In turn, ASUS’ corporate VP and general manager of networking and wireless devices business unit Tenlong Deng cites his company’s dedication to providing users with a safer and more diverse internet experience.
Olga Voloshyna, Chairman of the Committee on IT and Cyber Security of the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, believes that ASUS’ newly available routers with an in-built NordVPN subscription can be an excellent solution for small businesses or home use, offering an affordable alternative to the more costly solutions with in-built VPN modules.
‘Using VPN on the router can provide an additional layer of protection and convenience, automatically protecting the devices in the network from ill-intended outsiders, such as hackers. It allows users to connect to a safe encrypted data transfer channel not only computers and phones but also smart TV, gaming consoles, smart devices and other IoT devices that may not support VPN on their own. Such an approach minimizes the risk of an unprotected device getting used as an access point for attacks,’ Ms Voloshyna explains.
Additional benefits from having an in-built VPN on a router include:
- Simplified adjusting and managing the safety policies for all the devices in the network
- Protected online personality due to hidden IP address
- Safe use of publicly available WiFi access points
- Avoiding having one’s whole traffic tracked by Internet Service Providers
The Two Pioneering Models
‘We are delighted to collaborate with NordVPN to integrate the VPN service into our networking products. The various VPN configuration options within the device offer a flexible deployment of NordVPN to create a private, secure, fast internet exploration experience,’ Mr Deng states.
Two router models are heralding the partnership:
- ASUS RT-AX57 Go becomes the first router in the lineup with integrated NordVPN service. Its tri-mode connectivity makes it a perfect solution for travel, work, and home use, and the compact size ensures easy portability.
- ASUS GT-AX11000 Pro is a more powerful device, designed for gamers with an expressed need to keep multiple devices connected without compromising gaming performance.
Both models have in-built AiProtection and NordVPN. Users can easily set up the latter simply by entering their subscription credentials at the self-service page.
As per the partnership, Nord Security will continue cooperating with ASUS and gradually enable more and more users of ASUS networking devices to strengthen their online privacy and security with NordVPN services. Nevertheless, this partnership is not exclusive and Nord Security remains open to similar partnerships with other manufacturers.
