News about food delivery services closing come more often this year than news about new investments in such services. Modern Milkman, the English startup of the day, goes against the trend, it brought in GBP 50M of new financing in late November.
The startup’s concept more or less coincides with its name. The user makes an order in a few clicks the day before, and the milkman delivers it in the morning. The streets are empty, there is no need to guess or calculate the exact time of the delivery, routing the delivery service under such conditions is pure pleasure. The morning delivery order is associated with breakfast, and indeed, the product selection on the storefront is quite specific first there’s milk, bakery, and eggs. Frozen foods, for example, are either not there or hidden somewhere deep.
The app interface suggests that the user subscribes. Eggs get spent anyway, so why have them purchased automatically once a week. But regular orders are also available, and I suspect that it is the major part of the turnover. The biggest declared advantage over all other delivery services is eco-friendliness. The startup doesn’t use plastic packaging and asks to return the bottles in the following order – they will wash and reuse them. Many employ such features these days, but here we have the responsibility before nature at the basis of the positioning, at the same level as dar stores’ 15-minute delivery.
