The event will be live streamed on Apple’s new radio station – Beats 1, which accompanies the Apple Music service.
The old iTunes Festival will return next month under a new name – Apple Music Festival, announced Apple on Tuesday. This change marks the launch of the company’s latest music venture through which the event will be viewable live and on-demand to fans around the world, starting from September 19. There will also be coverage on Apple’s live radio station Beats 1 as well as backstage news and footage on Apple Music Connect.
Apple Music Festival is a free 10-day long series of concerts taking place overnight at London’s Roundhouse venue. Among the headliners performing at the festival are: Pharrell Williams, One Direction, Florence + the Machine, and Disclosure
“We wanted to do something really special for music fans this year,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “The Apple Music Festival is a greatest hits set of ten unbelievable nights featuring some of the best performers on the planet appearing live and interacting directly with their fans on Connect and Beats 1.”
As for the tickets, UK residents have the opportunity to win them on Apple Music as well as through media partners including the London Evening Standard. However, here is one problem. Since there are only so many seats to be had, a very select few will be able to obtain tickets. Thus, thousands will be left with watching the performance via Apple Music.
The iTunes Festival started at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2007 and has seen over 550 artists perform in front of more than half a million fans and tens of millions more online and on-demand. Past performers include Adele, Beck, Coldplay, Elton John, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Muse, Sir Paul McCartney and many more.
