Two events bring city leaders, technology companies, and urban innovators together in Barcelona to explore the future of cities and mobility. Smart City Expo World Congress 2026 and Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress 2026 will take place in Barcelona on November 3–5th, bringing together governments, technology companies, urban innovators, researchers, and industry leaders to explore the technologies and solutions shaping the future of cities. Held at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, the events connect the broader urban innovation ecosystem with dedicated platforms focused on its most important challenges revolving around how people and goods move through increasingly connected cities.

This year’s gathering is expected to welcome more than 27,000 professionals, alongside more than 1,100 exhibitors, and 600 speakers, with representatives from cities around the world. Smart City Expo will address urban innovation across areas including enabling technologies, energy and environment, mobility, governance and economy, living and inclusion, infrastructure and building, housing and the blue economy, while Tomorrow.Mobility will focus specifically on creating more sustainable, efficient, and inclusive urban mobility systems.

Smart City Expo Looks at the City of the Future

Since its first edition in 2011, Smart City Expo World Congress has developed into a global meeting point for cities and territories looking to address complex urban challenges and discover market-ready solutions. The 2026 edition will put issues including responsible AI, data sovereignty, circular cities, energy efficiency, accessibility, sustainable mobility, smart infrastructure, and resilient systems on the agenda.

Artificial intelligence and other enabling technologies will play an increasingly important role in this year’s discussions, alongside questions around how cities can turn technological innovation into practical improvements for residents. The programme will also explore how urban areas can become more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient while balancing technological development with environmental and social priorities.

The event will combine a multi-stage congress with an exhibition showcasing technologies and projects from companies, governments and other organizations. Startups will also have dedicated opportunities to present their innovations, while the programme of side events and urban innovation tours will connect the conference discussions with real-world projects across Barcelona.

Tomorrow.Mobility Focuses on How Cities Move

Running within the framework of Smart City Expo, Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress will provide a dedicated platform for the urban mobility ecosystem. Created in collaboration between Fira de Barcelona and EIT Urban Mobility, the event brings together public-sector leaders, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, experts and academics to explore how cities can develop more effective and sustainable mobility systems.

The 2026 programme will examine the technologies, policies and partnerships changing urban transport, with topics ranging from public transport and walkability to accessibility, smart logistics, multimodality, autonomous mobility, electrification, and shared mobility. The Congress is designed to move beyond discussion toward practical implementation, with its programme combining high-level perspectives with real-world mobility solutions and projects.

Among the broader questions facing the sector are how cities can reduce emissions while maintaining efficient transport networks, how mobility systems can become more accessible, and how data and technology can improve the movement of people and goods. Mobility discussions at the wider Smart City Expo will similarly focus on micromobility, shared systems, last-mile logistics, electrification, multimodal platforms, and data-driven urban transport.

From Technology to Real Urban Solutions

A key theme running across both events will be the need to translate technological progress into solutions that work in real urban environments. Smart City Expo describes this challenge as bridging the gap between ambition and impact, while Tomorrow.Mobility focuses on the implementation of solutions capable of making urban mobility more sustainable, efficient and inclusive.

The connection between the two events also reflects how closely mobility is linked to wider urban systems. Transport infrastructure, energy, housing, public services, digital infrastructure and governance increasingly need to work together as cities respond to population growth, climate pressures and rapid technological change.

Both events will provide opportunities for companies and governments to showcase solutions, while their congress programmes will bring together public and private-sector perspectives. Tomorrow.Mobility expects more than 5,000 mobility leaders and public-sector representatives from more than 990 cities, highlighting the scale of the dedicated mobility community within the wider Barcelona gathering.

Barcelona as a Global Urban Innovation Hub

The scale of Smart City Expo and Tomorrow.Mobility makes Barcelona a meeting point for stakeholders working across different parts of the urban ecosystem. Alongside the congress programmes, attendees will have access to exhibition spaces, networking opportunities, startup activities and side events designed to connect decision-makers with companies developing solutions for cities.

The 2026 programme will also feature the World Smart City Awards, while attendees can explore Barcelona through guided urban innovation tours showcasing local projects, public policies and innovation ecosystems. These activities provide a direct connection between the technologies and strategies discussed at the events and their application in the city itself.
