CloudApp – Video Screenshots by Alexander Gornyi

‘What’s the difference between a rat and a hamster?’

‘Practically nothing, the latter simply has better PR.’

Clip2net and dozens of similar services are utilities allowing to share screenshots and video captured from one’s screen. Usually, a computer has an in-built function of screen capturing – the Print Screen button. But then the image you get simply copies into the clipboard. Then you need to paste it into another file in an image editor, add captions and arrows, and only then send or upload online.

Clip2Net relieves from additional tasks and instantly creates a ready link. It’s convenient, useful, and no more than that – nobody invested millions into the program.

CloudApp, the American startup of the day, does practically the same video screenshots. The only technical innovation is that it combines webcam capturing with screen capturing. The video clip is based on the sender’s working windows, and the person comments the cursor movements from the corner. The PR will not call this product a utility anymore, instead it’s a Team Productivity Increasing Tool. They’d say – you used to have two hours of correspondence and 30 minutes of a Zoom meeting, and now you only need 30 seconds to watch. Everyone understands everything, everyone saves time.

CloudApp’s paid subscription begins with 8 dollars per person per month. If a program saves at least a couple of hours of an American white collar’s office time, it’s already a manifold payback. With the home office, it’s more than real.

The startup brought in USD 9M in its January round.
