Hungarian drone manufacturer ABZ Innovation is set to open its new manufacturing facility in Hungarian Szentendre on September 17th, marking a major milestone in the company’s plans to scale European production of agricultural and industrial drones.
The new facility comes a little over a year after ABZ Innovation secured EUR 7M in funding from Vsquared Ventures, Assembly Ventures, and Day One Capital. At the time, the company announced that a significant part of the investment would support the construction of a new manufacturing site with the potential to become the largest drone factory in Europe.
Now, that expansion is moving from plans to production. According to ABZ Innovation, the new Szentendre facility will more than quadruple its manufacturing capacity, creating additional room for the company to scale its heavy-duty drone platforms as demand grows across international markets.
From EUR 7M Investment to Expanded Production
Earlier this year, ITKeyMedia reported that ABZ Innovation’s EUR 7M Seed round was intended to accelerate several areas of the company’s growth, including manufacturing, autonomy R&D, supply-chain resilience, and its international distributor and service network.
The investment followed years of development focused on building proprietary drone systems for demanding agricultural and industrial applications. Rather than relying on fragmented third-party technology, ABZ Innovation has pursued a full-stack approach covering the airframe, propulsion, autonomy, software, payloads, and operational tooling.
That strategy is closely connected to the company’s broader vision of European drone autonomy. As ABZ Innovation’s team told ITKeyMedia earlier this year, the company sees control over the technology stack, data, supply chain, and service infrastructure as increasingly important for professional drone operators.
The new factory represents the next stage of that strategy: increasing production capacity while keeping development and manufacturing under one European-based operation.
Building European Drone Capacity
ABZ Innovation develops heavy-duty drones for agricultural and industrial applications, including precision spraying, spreading, cleaning, logistics, and other specialised operations. Its product portfolio includes agricultural L-Series platforms, industrial cleaning systems, and modular M-Series platforms designed for research and custom industrial applications.
The company is also increasingly positioning its products for international markets. ABZ Innovation currently operates through a global network spanning more than 40 countries, with its drones developed and manufactured in Szentendre.
The company’s international expansion has continued alongside the factory project. In June, ABZ Innovation announced that its L50 agricultural drone had received conditional approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, allowing it to continue being marketed, distributed, and operated in the United States under the FCC Covered List framework.
The milestone adds another dimension to the Szentendre expansion. The facility is not being built solely to serve the Hungarian market, but to support a European manufacturer targeting global demand for professional drone systems.
From Autonomy to Scale
When ITKeyMedia spoke with ABZ Innovation in February, the company described its development in several stages:
- first building reliable heavy-duty platforms,
- then investing in autonomy and safety,
- and more recently establishing international distribution and service networks.
The factory opening now marks a transition into another stage of that journey: scaling production.
For ABZ Innovation, manufacturing capacity is closely linked to its ambition to compete in a drone market where European companies face strong competition from established non-European manufacturers. The company’s full-stack approach, European engineering, regulatory focus, and emphasis on long-term service are intended to provide an alternative for customers looking for greater control, transparency, and supply-chain resilience.
The company has previously set a long-term objective of having thousands of its drones operating daily in real-world agricultural and industrial workflows by 2030.
The September 17th opening in Szentendre therefore represents more than the launch of another manufacturing site. It is a concrete step in ABZ Innovation’s effort to turn its European drone platform into a globally scaled manufacturing business — and to strengthen Europe’s position in the rapidly developing civilian drone industry.
